When to install your eSIM
Adding an eSIM needs an internet connection because the phone downloads it. Use reliable Wi-Fi and check your plan’s start rule before deciding when to install. Airport Wi-Fi may be unreliable, so plan your installation ahead.
Check your plan’s start rule before installing. If it starts on installation, its days begin as soon as you install the eSIM. If it starts at purchase, its days have already begun. A first-connection plan starts when the eSIM connects to a covered network.
A plan labelled “Starts when you buy” begins counting when you buy it. A plan that starts on installation begins counting when you install it. Buy or install those plans close to when you intend to use them.
Once it’s installed, keep your usual SIM as the line for mobile data. You switch the data over to the eSIM when you land.
