Switching on when you arrive
When you land, open your phone’s mobile or SIM settings and do two things:
- Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. It sounds wrong, but the eSIM is a foreign line and needs roaming on to use the local network.
- Choose the eSIM as the line for mobile data.
Leave your usual SIM switched on for calls and messages, so your own number keeps working. Calls and texts on it go through your own carrier, so any charge for them is theirs.
To keep your usual SIM from using data abroad, leave data roaming off for that line.
If the eSIM doesn’t connect, check both settings again, then turn Airplane mode on and off so the phone looks for a network afresh.
